Seller's description

A very well cared for and largely original example of the increasingly rare Porsche 911 (996.2) Targa, with 97,200 miles, 6-speed manual gearbox and 320bhp 3.6-litre flat-six. I bought the car from a friend 7 years ago and it has been great fun to own and remarkably reliable. It has been maintained throughout my ownership with the intention of keeping it long term, rather than simply preparing it for sale. The narrow body 996, naturally aspirated flat six and manual gearbox make this a wonderfully engaging 911 for UK roads, with a subtle raspy sound track from the aftermarket exhaust. The Targa adds a full width electrically sliding glass roof, giving a real open air feel while retaining the security and refinement of a coupe. The opening rear glass hatch and folding rear seats also makes it surprisingly practical sports car. I've regularly taken the car to Le Mans Classic and Spa Classic, and it is equally at home covering long motorway distances as it is on a good cross-country road. The car has a comprehensive service history with Porsche and respected Porsche specialists, with annual servicing recorded at approximately: 12k, 23k, 36k, 50k, 63k, 71k, 79k, 83k, 88k, 89k, 90k, 92k, 94k, 94.5k and 97.1k miles. It was serviced again this year and has 8 months' MOT. I have an extensive chronological history file containing servicing and maintenance invoices, together with the original documents and literature in the original Porsche leather wallet. There has been significant recent expenditure, including 4 brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, professionally blasted and powder coated wheels, new front radiator, rear engine mounts, genuine Porsche gear cables, Porsche 997 gear shifter giving a shorter and more positive shift, replacement windscreen, new Porsche front scuttle panel, refurbished wiper arms, replacement Porsche undertray and replacement left-hand door membrane. Importantly for a 996 Targa, 2 years ago I spent £3,500 having the Targa roof professionally refurbished by Precision Porsche in East Sussex, one of the specialists experienced with these roof systems. The complete roof and rear glass cassette was removed and the seals, cables and wear components replaced as required. The car has also just been professionally detailed and protected. This isn't a 996 that has simply been polished for an advert. It is a well known to me, properly maintained, with a substantial history and many of the age related jobs already taken care of.
